Just one movie old, one wouldn’t have expected Freida Pinto to give such a sterling performance. The official trailer of the Slumdog Millionaire starlet’s second movie Miral is out on the web and critics are going gaga over her looks, worked-upon accent, and obviously the performance.
Wait, it’s just the trailer. The buzz is that Freida might get an Oscar nomination for her performance in the film.
Miral, directed by Julian Schnabel of The Diving Bell fame, is adapted from the book of Italo-Palestinian writer Rula Jebreal. The movie takes off in the 1948 Jerusalem. A Palestinian woman sets an orphanage following the creation of the Israeli state. Freida plays the main protagonist Miral, who is sent to the orphanage in 1978 by her father. She later starts teaching at a refugee camp and falls in love with a political activist. The movie essays Miral’s journey as she is torn between resistance and education as separate paths to political change.
So, how did Freida prepare to get into the skin of her character? As the actress’ spokesperson tells a daily, “Miral specifically needed her to go through a lot of accent training. The entire unit was stationed in Israel for a long time, and they were all very driven to make this happen…”
Miral will release in September. Catch the trailer of the film here:
