Dabangg's mammoth opening at the box office has not only stunned the makers but also Bollywood. With a stupendous opening day business of Rs 14 crores approx and grand collections from the overseas market, this Salman Khan starrer worked not only with the masses but also with classes.
But the trade analysts warn it would be hard for Dabangg to sustain its strength at the box office in the coming weeks.
Dabangg is having a dream run at the BO and has crushed every record set earlier. The movie’s Rs 49 crore first weekend business has beaten the 3 Idiots collection of first weekend. About Dabangg’s business, Gautam Dutta of PVR tells a daily, “It’s picking up well, but expecting a phenomenon like 3 Idiots is a bit far fetched. In fact, Dabangg’s best days are over. I doubt it will be able to sustain in the second week.”
Trade pundits say it is too early to call Dabangg a bigger hit than 3 Idiots. It is just the hype and Salman Khan that have made the movie work at BO; otherwise the movie hardly has a gripping story. So, once the frenzy is over, trade experts opine that the movie will have few takers.
No matter what lies in the coming days, Dabanng’s makers are on the seventh heaven and the co-producer of the film Malaika Arora says that such a huge response for the film wasn’t expected.
