Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey - Movie Review
Great intention, okay movie!

Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey - Movie Review
Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey rests on fine performances by actors. Abhishek Bachchan as the clear-eyed visionary who incites the young minds to rebellion is quite impressive. Deepika Padukone, playing Kalpana Dutta, performs well and, to our amusement, does get a badminton sequence as well. On the sidelines, Sikander Kher, Vishakha Singh (both as lovers), Maninder Singh, Shreyas Pandit and Feroz Wahid Khan leave an impression.

Art direction and costumes have a greater significance in a period film. Must say that the freshly starched kurtas and squeaky clean dhotis do stand out sorely against the musty, muddy backdrop of Goa (shooting location) that’s made to pass off as Chittagong. The musket rifles, vintage cars, trucks and even an old-modelled airplane with the Union Jack painted under its wings are sure a feat of art direction (Nitin Desai). The music, by Sohail Sen, reeks of A R Rahman’s style.

All said, Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey is strictly a one-time watch film. It’s made with lot of passion and great intention but save for a few heart-stopping, tear-shedding moments, it remains an average film. My favourite sequence comes in the end, when the protagonist, battered and bruised and about to breathe his last at the gallows, sees a flagless post and imagines - rather actually sees - a tricolour flapping. It’s the moment like this that gives you your money’s worth.
