Somebody once said that box office, like weather, is hard to predict. True indeed if you consider some of the recent flops and hits. While Vishal Bhardwaj’s 7 Khoon Maaf is dying a slow death at box office, the small-budget comedy Tanu Weds Manu has emerged triumphant.
The film starring Kangana Ranaut and Madhavan grossed around Rs. 18.25 crore in its first-week run. The film’s second weekend added a further collection of a little over Rs. 5 crore, taking the tally to Rs. 23 crores approx. This is a very good performance by a film that doesn’t boast of a crowd-pulling star and has released at a time when the cricket world cup is going on.
On the other hand, the last week’s release Yeh Faasley has opened to an extremely poor response of just 5 percent at multiplexes.
Worst, 7 Khoon Maaf, which was high on hype, managed to gross just about Rs 17.25 crore in its two-week run. The film is a flop.
The month of March won’t see any major releases from Bollywood. The next big release would be the Abhishek Bachchan-starrer Game on April 1.
