|Love sex aur drama! Dibakar Banerjee the talented director of films like Love Sex Aur Dhokha, Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! finds himself in the middle of a controversy kick-started by the almost forgotten hottie Payal Rohatgi. She claims he demanded sex in return for a role in his film Shanghai.
According to Payal, she has been in touch with Dibakar for over a year now. The communication began when she sent him messages, asking for a role in his films as she appreciated his kind of cinema. Payal says that over time, she and Dibakar became good friends and he even discussed many personal issues with her, including his admission that he’s seeing a psychiatrist to - as Payal alleges - “discuss his inability to be monogamous and his need for multiple affairs” outside his marriage. She says Dibakar suggested her to take counselling from the same shrink.
Payal says that Dibakar also referred her to his casting director for a screen test of the role of a bereaving widow. During the screen test Payal so internalized the character that she was depressed long after the audition was over. Payal says that’s when Dibakar dropped by at her place and “misbehaved”. According to her, Dibakar said she had put on weight and asked her to lift her top so that he could see how chubby she was. Payal says she refused and told Dibakar to leave. Resultantly, Payal did not get the role in Shanghai.
Dibakar, on the other hand, has a different story to tell. He admits that he’s been in touch with Payal for some time, but only as a well-wisher because she displayed signs of paranoia. He also admits that he referred her to his personal counsellor (psychiatrist) to fight against depression. But he insists that Payal’s messages to him had been of flirtatious kind and he clearly told her that he doesn’t believe in sex-for-role quid pro quo because that’s against his “deepest principles”. He admits that he was unwise to meet Payal in private when she called him to her place after the screen test, but claims that nothing of sexually exploitative nature transpired during his brief stay there. As for him commenting on her weight, Dibakar says it was done not at her place but in the studio where a lot of other people were present. He goes on to add that he did not ask her to lift her top.
Dibakar alleges that when Payal was not found suitable for role, she flooded him and his casting director with calls and messages at most unlikely hours. Now, in a desperate bid to malign him, she is accusing him of having asked sexual favours for the role.
