Akshay Kumar’s 'Thank You' fails to draw crowds at box office
'Thank You' takes a below average opening at ticket windows

Box office, the yardstick of a film’s commercial success, doesn’t seem to have responded enthusiastically to Akshay Kumar’s latest starrer Thank You, directed by Anees Bazmee.

Are the movie buffs tired of slapstick and silly comedies? Or is it that Akshay Kumar has lost his magic touch? Whatever the case, his first big release of the year, Thank You, has managed to get a lukewarm response from the audience.

The film, starring a host of actors like Irrfan Khan, Bobby Deol, Sonam Kapoor, Celina Jaitley and Rimi Sen, has opened to a 30 to 50 percent response at multiplexes. The single screen theatres saw more footfalls with 40 to 60 percent opening. The film, being a crass comedy, has struck a chord with the frontbenchers, but it remains to be seen if its collections will pick up over the weekend.

On the other hand, the last week’s release F.A.L.T.U witnessed a huge fall in its collection after a dream run in the first week. The film has already managed a decent collection of around Rs 17.25 crore nett.

Abhishek Bachchan-starrer Game was a washout with a dismal Rs. 4.25 crore collection.

The next big release at theatres would also be an Abhishek-starrer. Dum Maaro Dum, though in the thick of a controversy for demeaning women, is slated to release on April 22. It’s expected to take a good start at box office because of the hype it has managed to create through publicity.
