'Dum Maaro Dum' shows little dum at box office

Is another disappointment in store for Abhishek Bachchan? Three weeks after his Game tanked at the box office, Dum Maaro Dum opened below expectations on Friday.

The movie was expected to take a fiery start given the fact that Friday was a holiday (Good Friday) and the film was already riding high on hype after all the controversy about Goa’s image being tarnished and not to forget that raunchy song Mit Jaye Gham featuring the lithe and lissom Deepika Padukone.

Alas, all the hype and hoopla was of little use on Friday when the film released to a dull response at theatres. It was expected to take at least a 50 percent opening but managed between 30 to 35 percent occupancy on average at multiplexes. The response at single screen theatres was still more disappointing, with just 10 to 20 percent occupancy.

The reviews from critics too haven’t been very flattering. So Dum Maaro Dum will struggle to gain momentum at theatres.

Akshay Kumar’s comedy Thank You too saw a dip in its collections in the second week. The film rounded off its two-week collection with Rs. 40 crore nett, which can be labelled just average for a multistarrer.

The coming week will see the release of many films like Shor In the City, Chalo Dilli, I Am, Naughty @ 40 and Men Will Be Men.
