|On Friday, the media was abuzz with the reports that the three anchors of MTV’s popular show Roadies had to face a horrifying incident when their faces were blackened in Pune by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists, who were protesting against “obscene onscreen behaviour”. But Raghu Ram goes on record to say that no one had blackened his face; but concedes that someone from the crowd did throw black ink on them.
Raghu along with Rannvijay Singh was in Pune for a promotional event of Roadies. It’s reported that around fifteen ABVP activists stopped their promotional rally and blackened Raghu's face with ink.
“We blackened the faces of MTV Roadies anchors Raghu Ram, Rajeev Lakshman and Ranvijay Singh and told them not to set foot in the cultural city of Pune,” Shailendra Dalvi, Pune secretary of the ABVP - the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh - was quoted as saying.
However, TV’s bad man Raghu has a different story to tell. While talking to a tabloid, Raghu tries to explain what happened that day, “Yes, there were people shouting slogans against the show and we immediately shifted into a car. They gheraoed our car, but never touched us. So whatever these people are saying about blackening our faces is just for cheap publicity. It's like the Poonam Pandey case - they (the ABVP) will say anything to get their two minutes of fame.”
What do you think about the incident. Is it true that ABVP protestors did what they claim, or is it Raghu, who is right?
