So it’s former lovers pitted against each other at the box office as both Ranbir Kapoor and ex-girlfriend Katrina Kaif will have much awaited and hyped films opening on the very same day. The Ranbir starrer Rockstar opens on September 9 with Kat’s Yash Raj film Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, leading us to a dual of epic proportions.
The films are being released to make the most of Ganeshotsav, which culminates around the scheduled Friday but both camps are none the less hoping to make the most of the past history between the two exes.
Adding spice to the mix is a certain Bollywood newcomer in Rockstar, the half-Pakistani, half-Czech Nargis Fakhri who is supposedly the very reason he broke up with Katrina. Kat, not to be outdone in the straight back at you stakes, costars with Imran Khan in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, the hot actor who is biting at Ranbir’s heels for the spot of Bollywood's next superstar.
While some sectors of the industry may be concerned, this is not the case for the makers of the two films who are each confident in their own projects and appear to show scant regard for possible opening clashes with other star vehicles opening at the same time. Theatre owners too are set to profit and are rubbing their hands in glee at the prospect of what could be a huge weekend in takings at the box office.
Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif have refused to comment on each other ever since they split but whilst they were both filming these respective films, gossip was rife about how the loved up pair would meet on the sets of both films and spend many an hour with each other.
The end to the love affair happened soon after that with Nargis stealing Ranbir’s affections and attentions during filming which allegedly lead Kat to demand a commitment prompting Ranbir to play the "I’m not ready to settle down yet card". Cue end of relationship.
In fact, the two movies were partly so hyped because of the Kat-Ranbir affair so perhaps it is only fitting that the same date has been chosen to debut the two films.
