Love U… Mr. Kalakaar - Movie Review
The ApunKaChoice movie review of Love U… Mr. Kalakaar. Do we still live in the age where a mere eye contact can make us woozy in love? Rajshri Productions needs to search for this answer because most of their recent films have failed to deliver what today’s audience expects. The kings of mush are back with another romantic, clean film well-suited for families. Love U… Mr. Kalakaar, directed by S. Manasvi and starring Amrita Rao and Tusshar Kapoor, is a romantic story about a boy and a girl and how the boy wins many a heart to marry the girl.

Yes, the story is wishy-washy, but we can track down most of the romantic films (some are even superhits) to the same plot. So, what exactly does the film miss out on?

First of all, the look and feel of the film is too thanda. The pretty, girl-next-door Amrita Rao is in love with a cartoonist, but the romance between the lead pair never goes beyond the long dialogues eulogizing pyar. The couple lacks the spark, the vim to brighten up the big screen with their cooing in newly found love that is for keeps.

The Storyline - There is a boy named Sahil (Tusshar Kapoor) who is unfortunately a cartoonist and still more unfortunate to fall in love with a rich girl Ritu (Amrita Rao). The boy and the girl want to marry, but the girl’s father, Ram Kapoor, like most of the rich dads, is dead against it. So he comes up with a devious plan and challenges the boy to manage his company for three months and to earn profits too; obviously he is a businessman who never wishes for loss. But as love is always a winner in reel life, Tusshar achieves what he is not expected to with his good nature and luck and shows the wicked dad that he, too, can earn money and deserves to live with his daughter.

Not again! - The mushy scenes in the film are total washout. Yeah, we know you expect to see something like Vivaah, but remember that was directed by Sooraj Barjatya, and this one is by a newcomer. While watching the film, especially these scenes, you might feel like tearing your hair out or kicking the back of your front seat. The bland, non-spicy dialogues are not up to the taste of today’s youth who want something real not corny.

The enjoyable moments - You would love the scenery in the film especially some of the songs where cinematography is top notch for a lovestory, and the best things is that you are not taken to the Swiss Alps for it; the landscape is very Indian. And…there is unintentional humour to be derived from some of the serious scenes.

Performances - Amrita Rao sticks to what she is best at, emoting through her big beautiful eyes. She is good in some scenes but fails to make a connect with the audience. Tusshar has done this kind of role at the early stage of his career. At that time his innocent face worked in his favour, but now he is not a quintessential loverboy, not after he played that mute character in Golmaal series. Ram Kapoor is wonderful as a strict patriarch but he is left with little scope to make a mark.

Does all this sound uninteresting to you? Not your fault, the movie is such. But take your family along with you, and they might like it. But the film will find it hard to sustain in the metros. The movie’s dull music is also a spoiler. Moreover, the predictable turn of events in the film, its slow and steady pace with no jolts and jerks, and no chemistry between the lead pair will lead to its downfall at the BO.
