|The Celebrity Cricket League (CCL) kicked off in Bengaluru at an elaborate ceremony with actor Salman Khan declaring the games open.
The Celebrity Cricket League (CCL) combines the two most popular forms of entertainment in India - cinema and cricket. CCL will bring together Bollywood and the southern film industry to play the game of cricket. For the first time in India, the film fraternities from Bollywood and the southern film industry - Tamil, Telugu, Kannada will come together to play in the T20 format.
This first edition of CCL will see actors from the film fraternity compete against each other in Twenty20 matches. The film fraternities are represented by four teams - Mumbai Heroes, Tamil Rhinos, Karnataka Bulldozers and Telugu Warriors.
While our favourite actors battle it out on the cricket pitch, a brigade of beautiful actresses including Genelia D'Souza, Sonakshi Sinha, Shriya Saran, Priyamani, Charmee, Taapsee, Samantha, Andrita and Ragini will be cheering for them from the sidelines. Making sure there is enough masala in this extravaganza masking itself as cricket.
About the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL 2011)
The first edition of the star-packed Twenty20 extravaganza CCL begins on June 4, in Bengaluru and the finals will be held in Hyderabad on June 12.
There are four teams - Mumbai Heroes, Tamil Rhinos, Karnataka Bulldozers and Telugu Warriors.
The idea is to combine two popular Indian religions, Bollywood and cricket, to produce great entertainment for the Indian audience.
CCL will see the film fraternities from South India and Bollywood battle against each other for the CCL cricket cup.
All matches will be covered on the Sahara network.
Celebrity Cricket League Teams
The Telugu Warriors is owned by Vishnu Manchu. The team is led by Venkatesh and has names like Vishnu, Tarun, Siddarth, Srikanth and Nitin, among others playing for it.
The Mumbai Heroes is owned by Sohail Khan Entertainment. The team will be captained by Suniel Shetty and has Salman Khan (as their icon player), Riteish Deshmukh, Sohail Khan, Arbaaz Khan, Sonu Sood, Harman Baweja, Aftab Shivdasani, Dino Morea, Kunal Khemu and Mahesh Manjrekar among others.
Chennai Rhinos is owned by Prasad MD of GVR Infra and Raja Rao Chairman Prathyusha Group. The team is led by Suriya, boasts of names like Madhavan, Abbas, Vishal and others.
Karnataka Bulldozers is owned by Ashok Kheny, industrialist-cum-producer, who is the owner of Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises (NICE). The team is led by Sudeep.
