Shaitan - Movie Preview
'If you are not living on the edge you are taking up too much space'. This is the mantra that defines the youth of today. But what happens when the edge gives away. Shaitan is the story of 5 youngsters set in the urbanscape of Mumbai.

The film is co-produced by Anurag Kashyap and directed by Bejoy Nambiar. It features Kalki Koechlin, Rajeev Khandelwal, Rajit Kapoor, Pawan Malhotra, Shiv Pandit, Kirti Kulhari, Gulshan Devaiya and Neil Bhoopalam.

Character Sketches:

Rajeev Khandelwal as Inspector Arvind Mathur

Inspector Arvind Mathur is a sincere, honest and upright police inspector who specializes in solving kidnapping cases. Quite often, his sincerity towards his profession and the angst within has got the better of him, both at work and at home. Mathur, a seasoned veteran in complicated, high-profile cases, has been previously suspended for his heavy-handed (though successful) dealing with people and systems that his conscience doesn't agree with.

Kalki Koechlin as Amrita Jayshankar aka Amy
Attractive, aggressive teenage daughter of a rich NRI. Amy is a vulnerable girl dealing with the loss of her mother. She is an angsty youngster revolting against her privileged upbringing. She’s a charismatic sociopath. Her unchecked sexuality, her impish outbursts, her reckless need to push everyone over the edge, including herself -- all these things define her personality.

Shiv Pandit as Dushyant Sahu aka Dash
Dash has his life sorted out at 23. He’s a laidback, gloomy charmer. He peddles drugs for a living and has a shady past that includes links with the underworld. Unflappable and unflustered, he’s the quintessential cool dude with tattoos and a ‘master plan’ for his pack of f(r)iends.

Gulshan Devaiya as Karan Chaudhary aka KC
Life is one big party for this rich dude. He has the money, the style and the women. An offbeat sense of humour and a temper which tends to go beyond control. KC is the guy who acts as if he owns the world.

Kirti Kulhari as Tanya Sharma
Tanya is a pretty girl with much insecurity. She’s burdened by her sisters pimping her to the “leering fashion world”. She’s tired of being rich dude KC’s doormat and she’s frustrated at being always a kilo more than she would have liked. She fails to cope and seeks refuge in a world of sex, drugs and crime along with her friends.

Neil Bhoopalam as Zubin Shroff
Zubin is a freak and a geek, who, when not getting off with anime, hangs loose with the gang. Always up for a game or a dose of anything exciting to get him out of the dull, antiseptic, suburban apartment life he hails from.

Synopsis
Amy, Dash, KC, Zubin and Tanya. Young, intelligent, good looking and 'uber cool'. With no hang ups and no boundaries, excitement is what they seek till a 'moment' changes everything. An accident and their actions to cover up lead them through a series of incidents across the roads, streets and by lanes of Mumbai and into the dark side the lurks within all of us - The Shaitan.

Inspector Mathur entrusted with the unenviable task of chasing the youngsters down exposes the underbelly of the Police system and crime while grappling with his inner Shaitan. The confluence of the two sides brings across the ultimate explosion of action drama and thrill on Indian screens that are best described as real and raw.

‘Shaitan’ is slated to release on June 10.
