Do-gooder Vivek Oberoi gets Forbes honour

Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi has got recognition from Forbes magazine for his charity work.

In the ‘Heroes of Philanthropy’ list put out by Forbes Asia, Vivek Oberoi is one of the four Indians to have made it to the list. He is the only Bollywood star in the list as the other three Indians are businessmen Azim Premji (Wipro), Shiv Nadar (HCL) and G. Mallikarjuna Rao (GMR group).

It’s no secret that Vivek Oberoi has been associated with many charities for about ten years now. He has played an important role in Yashodhara Oberoi Foundation which began in 2002. Vivek was among the few Bollywood stars who took personal pains to ensure the rehabilitation of the villagers displaced by the devastating tsunami of 2004. He started Project Hope then.

Vivek has also been associated with Banyan, which rehabilitates homeless women with mental illness. Vivek has also lent his support to Cancer Patients Aids Association.

Not just Vivek, his parents Suresh Oberoi and Yashodhara Oberoi are part of many charities. Now, Vivek’s wife Priyanka Alva Oberoi too has joined hands. So, in a way, they also deserve a part of the honour that Vivek has got from Forbes.
