Aamir Khan Productions Delhi Belly continued its stellar run at the box office over the weekend even as Amitabh Bachchan’s Bbuddah...Hoga Terra Baap (BHTB) gained momentum at the ticket windows.
Through Saturday, Delhi Belly starring Imran Khan, Vir Das and Kunaal Roy Kapur, has earned approximately Rs 15.65 crores, quite impressive considering that it is an adult comedy. In contrast Amitabh’s Bbuddah...Hoga Terra Baap made Rs 1.91 crore on its opening day, and Rs 2.35 crores on Saturday (per sources).
The collections are impressive considering that both films have been made on small budgets and should turn in a handsome profit for their producers. Buddha has suffered mostly because Delhi Belly is playing on the maximum number of screens -- 1200 screens in total, including the English version and the dubbed Hindi version. Moreover, Delhi Belly has mostly got positive reviews from critics and has managed to pull in the young crows to the cinema.
The only thing that does not work for Delhi Belly, is offered up by the Amitabh Bachchan starrer Bbuddah - Hoga Terra Baap this weekend. Yes, audiences have been pre-warned to not watch Delhi Belly with your family, and opt instead for Bbuddah if you are in for some wholesome family entertainment.
Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap is made on a budget of around 10 crores (excluding Big B’s fee) and has already earned Rs. 14.75 crores from satellite and music rights so whatever the outcome may be at the box office the move has already turned in a profit for AB Corp.
Delhi Belly has emerged as the clear winner at the box office this weekend, and should continue to do well through the week. Next Friday will see the release of Salman Khan Being Human’s first production Chillar Party, and the steamy Murder 2 starring Emraan Hashmi and Jacqueline Fernandez.
