Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara may not draw many footfalls in Mumbai due to terror attack

Will Mumbai blasts affect box office run of <i>Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara</i>?
While the loss of lives is irreplaceable and one can’t condole enough with the victims, a nagging worry must be weighing on the minds of the makers of this Friday’s release Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. How will the film fare at box office, releasing just two days after the serial blasts in Mumbai.

Bollywood still hasn’t forgotten the fate of director Dibakar Banerjee’s film Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! which released at the time of the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai in 2008. The film bombed at box office because it just failed to attract any footfalls despite being a darned good entertainer.

Now, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara releases on Friday when the city of Mumbai is still reeling from the triple blasts that rocked the city on Wednesday evening. A lot of events have already been cancelled. Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani have themselves cancelled the first trailer launch of Don 2. Now, the trailer has been released without much fanfare.

But a greater worry in the trade circuits is: will people flock to theatres to watch Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.

The movie was expected to get an excellent opening in Mumbai and now trade experts opine that the collections will doubtlessly be hit because many viewers won’t venture out for a weekend of movie experience at the theatres. However, this effect will be restricted to Mumbai.

On the flip side, there are many positives that work in the film’s favour. It has the fresh pairing of Hrithik Roshan with Katrina Kaif. It has an attractive cast ensemble including Farhan Akhtar, Abhay Deol and Kalki Koechlin. Moreover, the very theme of the film -- living every moment of life to the fullest -- may now strike a chord among the viewers in a different way.

As for the box office figures, we will let you know as soon as they pour in after the film’s release on Friday.
