|Kajal Aggarwal, who makes her Bollywood debut today opposite Ajay Devgan in Singham, says she’s proud to be a south Indian actress.
Kajal has worked in a slew of Telugu and a few Tamil films over the last four years. But she had recently stirred up a controversy when she allegedly said in an interview that she doesn’t consider herself a south Indian actress because she is a Punjabi by birth. This had caused a furore down south where the producers had reportedly called for a ban on Kajal.
However, Kajal says she’s proud of the fact that she’s a south Indian actress.
“I feel very proud that I am a South Indian actress. That industry has given me name, fame and love. I have never said I am not a south Indian actress...I have done 21 movies over there. I do enjoy a certain position over there which is fabulous and why will I say that,” Kajal is quoted as saying by a news agency.
Having said that, Kajal goes on to add that the north-south divide is slowly blurring and the regional barriers are disappearing.
“I have noticed is lot of technicians like art directors, choreographers, actresses are being shared pan-India. Like lot of south technicians are working for Hindi cinema and vice-versa. Even actresses and actor are now working or doing films in different languages. I do believe that regional barriers are disappearing now and it’s now becoming one big Indian industry,” she said.
