Do you think Aamir Khan will be a better Munnabhai than Sanjay Dutt?

Some artistic creations should be left untouched. So would the purists vouch, and many are already pooh-poohing the idea of Aamir Khan replacing Sanjay Dutt as the next Munnabhai.
The buzz that director Rajkumar Hirani is toying with the thought of roping in Aamir Khan and Sharman Joshi, thereby dropping Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi, as Munna and Circuit in the next Munnabhai caper, Munnabhai Chale Amerika, has sent a wave of hushed exclamations like “what?”, “no way!”, “can’t be true!” through the fans of the franchise. After all, don’t we all love the Munnagiri as immortalized by the now-bumbling-now-brash Sanjay Dutt. Not to forget, his gut-splittingly hilarious sidekick Circuit so inimitably played by Arshad Warsi.
Sacrilege it seems to think of any other actors stepping into the shoes of Munna and Circuit.
Yet, cinematic history is witness that defying the popular notion can augur well for artistic creativity. Wasn’t Daniel Craig, with his shaven chest and a liking for stirred martinis, labelled a “pansy” when he slipped into the suit of James Bond, a role once honoured by the likes of Sean Connery and Roger Moore? Look at him now: one of the best Bonds, many would concur.
Granted that it’s hard to envision Aamir Khan and Sharman Joshi as Munna and Circuit, but make no mistake, the duo has the mettle to give a new interpretation to the characters. And didn’t we love Aamir Khan’s tapori shtick in Rangeela when he wooed Urmila in blindingly yellow togs and riotously blabbered on in his street lingo.
We’re sure there would be many takers and haters of the idea of Aamir and Sharman as the next Munnabhai and Circuit. What’s your opinion? Do let us know!
