Aarakshan cleared for release by Madras High Court
Madras High Court lifts the stay on the release of Aarakshan

Director Prakash Jha and the team of Aarakshan can heave a collective sigh of relief. The Madras High Court, which stayed the film’s release over a financial dispute, has now lifted the stay.

Justice V Periya Karuppiah had stayed the film’s release on Monday after a petition from Sushil Gupta of G G Photo Limited claimed that the film’s producer Firoz A Nadiadwala had failed to pay the dues amounting to Rs. 3.25 crores.

Apparently, an undertaking had been signed between Nadiadwala and Gupta that the former will pay the required amount to the latter before the release of the film. However, when the four cheques issued by Nadiadwala bounced, Gupta approached the court with his petition.

Now, an out-of-court settlement was done between Gupta and Nadiadwala on Tuesday. In view of the development, the Madras High Court has lifted the stay and the movie can now release as scheduled on August 12.

Aarakshan is based on the controversial subject of reservation in education system. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, Prateik Babbar and Manoj Bajpai.
