A decade back, Farhan Akhtar reformed the face of Indian cinema with his movie Dil Chahta Hai. He brought forth the male urban youth bonding in a never-seen-before manner to the big screen.
Akaash, Sameer and Sid (played by Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Akshaye Khanna respectively) still remain fresh in our minds! Every friend circle has one Aakash, who is the one with the funny bone and forever ready to pull someone’s leg. Every friend circle has one Sameer, who is the innocently cute guy and falls in the trap set by Aakash. And, every friend circle has one Sid, who is the sensible and composed guy. Dil Chahta Hai screened the trio’s boyish bonding flawlessly!
Furthermore, Dil Chahta Hai captured Goa in an inimitable manner, and has been an inspiration behind many extemporaneous trips to Goa! The location where the three boys sat and discussed their friendship’s future while watching a ship sailing away is now a popular tourist destination of Goa known as The Dil Chahta Hai Spot!
Since Dil Chahta Hai, Bollywood has tried to capture the urban male bonding through various movies like Rock On, Delhi Belly, and the latest addition to this list being Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. Though the above mentioned movies are successful ones, none of them has managed to create as strong an impact that Dil Chahta Hai did!
Ten years have passed by, and we still watch DCH, whenever aired on television! We congratulate Farhan Akhtar on this feat and leave you with dialogues said by Aakash, Sameer and Sid that will take you down memory lane and remind you of the time you saw Dil Chahta Hai for the first time.
Aakash (Aamir Khan) to Shalini (Preity Zinta) at college’s farewell party: “Shalini. Main tumse aur sirf tumse pyar karta hoon. Meri har saans, meri har dhadkan, mere har pal main tum ho aur sirf tum ho Shalini.. Mujhe yakin hai ki main sirf isliye janma hoon ki tumse pyar kar sakoon, aur tum sirf isliye ki ek din meri ban jao. Tum meri ho Shalini, aur agar tum apne dil se poochogi, to jaan logi, ki main sach keh raha hoon.”
Sameer (Saif Ali Khan) to Priya (Suchitra Pillai) while talking over phone: “Hi Priya. Haan main, magar wo, suno to, tumne to, lekin main, kabse keh.. Main Aakash ke yahan, hello ??!!”
Sid (Akshaye Khanna) to Aakash (Aamir Khan) after slapping him: “Grow up Aakash. Ye zaruri nahi ki humein ek dusre ki harr baat sahi lage. Lekin harr dosti mein ek hadd hoti hai jisse paar nahi karna chahie aur aaj tune wo had paar di.”
