Prakash Jha’s controversial film Aarakshan is doing well at the box office. The movie witnessed a good collection in its first weekend. The movie was also benefitted by the Independence Day holiday. On the other hand, Vikram Bhatt’s thriller Phhir, based on reincarnation, opened to a poor response.
Aarakshan, which was in the eye of storm before its release, made Rs. 18 to Rs. 18.5 crore nett at the box-office during its first weekend. Though the movie had an average opening, its collection picked up over the weekend. The weekend collection of Aarakshan goes like this: Rs. 4.75 crore on Friday; Rs. 6.25 to Rs. 6.5 crores on Saturday; and Rs. 7 to Rs. 7.25 crore on Sunday.
On Independence Day, Aarakshan did a business of around Rs 6.50 crore nett and that took its grand total to Rs. 25 crore nett in its first four days. But since the movie has been panned by critics and has received mixed response from the audience, its collections may witness a drop in the coming days.
Coming to the other release of Friday, Phhir, the movie with an uninteresting plotline and no stars, opened to a dull 15-20% response. There is no hope for Phhir at the BO.
Singham, in its third week, collected Rs. 12.50 crore nett. The movie is a superhit with total business Rs. 86.25 crore nett. It might add a few more crores in the coming days.
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara grossed around Rs. 6.75 crore nett in its fourth week taking its four-week total to around Rs 83 crore nett. The movie is a box office hit.
