Freida Pinto’s lightened skin tone in ad invites flak

Freida Pinto finds herself in the eye of a controversy not because of any film but for a L’Oreal ad. Has L’Oreal done it again? After clarifying that they did not try to make international pop singer Beyonce Knowles look fairer than her natural tone, the cosmetic giant L’Oreal is again under the scanner for digitally lightening Pinto’s skin in an ad for its Colors make-up line.
However, the spokesperson for L’Oreal has denied that there had been any touching done on Freida’s natural looks. The olive-skinned beauty recently shot a campaign for ‘Colours Take Flight Project Runway’ limited-edition. The campaign was meant to showcase the make-up colours applied on Freida’s eyes. The company says that “some powerful studio lightings with ring-flash have been used for this purpose to create a ‘runway’ effect on the picture,” and strictly denied retouching Freida Pinto’s face.
But the clarification from L’Oreal hasn’t stopped the tabloids and forums from lashing out at the company for their alleged blooper.
A Hollywood site writes: “Looks like L’Oreal have done it again, they’ve changed the skin colour of Freida Pinto for their new campaign. L’Oreal signed the Slumdog Millionaire actress to front their new ad campaign but judging from the ad the photoshoppers weren’t too happy with her natural skin colour so they lightened her up quite a bit.”
Freida Pinto, however, is against any kind of skin lightening measures. Once in an interview she even talked about Indians being obsessed with white skin and that she feels sick about it.
