Akshay Kumar and John Abraham’s comeback film Desi Boyz has got a mixed response at box office. While the occupancy rates were good at some centres, at others the footfalls were just below the mark.
Marking the directorial debut of Rohit Dhawan, Desi Boyz tells the story of two recession-hit men in London who are compelled to take up jobs as male escorts to make ends meet. The critical reviews of the film have been mixed and so has been the response at theatres.
Like the last big Bollywood release Rockstar, Desi Boyz too fared better in North India, particularly in the NCR region where the occupancy at some centres ranged from 70 percent to 90 percent. But at other places the response was not that heartening. It remained between 40 to 50 percent. And that’s a bummer considering the huge publicity the film has been given apart from an extensive release at nearly 2200 theatres.
The other big release of Friday was The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 which opened to a good response. The Twi-Hards who have stayed loyal to the franchise thronged the theatres for the movie which offers certain highlights like the marriage between the human Bella (Kristen Stewart) and the vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson). By the way, the critical response to the film hasn’t been very positive.
Meanwhile, the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Rockstar has rounded off its two-week run at theatres with an aggregate collection of Rs. 64 crore approximately. It made Rs.16 crore in its second week.
The next Friday would see the release of The Dirty Picture, starring Vidya Balan, Emraan Hashmi, Tusshar Kapoor and Naseeruddin Shah. It’s expected to have a good opening.
