|The ‘Evergreen Romantic Superstar’ of Indian Cinema, Dev Anand, passed away in London on Saturday night following a cardiac arrest. The legendary actor had not been keeping well for the last few days and was in London for a medical checkup. Per family sources Dev Anand died with his son Sunil by his side.

Dev Anand made his debut in the film Ek Hain in 1946 and reached superstar status with the release of Ziddi in 1947. Amongst his many hits, the films that stand out are Paying Guest, Baazi, Jewel Thief, CID, Johny Mera Naam, Amir Garib, Warrant, Hare Rama Hare Krishna, Des Pardes and Guide.
Dev Anand’s Guide is perhaps the film that he is most identified with. He won the Filmfare award for his performance in Guide in 1966. The film also won Filmfare Awards in five other categories including ‘Best Film’ and ‘Best Director’. In 1993, he received a Filmfare "Lifetime Achievement Award" and in 1996 he received a Screen Videocon "Lifetime Achievement Award".
Dev Anand was honoured with the prestigious 'Padma Bhushan' in 2001 and 'Dada Saheb Phalke Award' in 2002 for his outstanding contributions to Indian cinema.
Bollywood mourns the death of Dev Anand
The film fraternity took to Twitter to express sadness on the death of the legendary actor Dev Anand, exclaiming that the void left by the actor will not be filled again.

Had just met Dev Saheb at his premiere recently .. he was weak but full of spirit ..the newspapers confirming his passing away..He was such a positive person .. never associated death with him."
