Shahrukh Khan’s latest release Don 2 has lived up to the mammoth expectations at the box office with an opening weekend collection that puts the film firmly on the path of being a blockbuster.
The movie, released in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil versions, had a good opening on Friday with a nett collection of more than Rs. 15 crore from all three versions. The business remained steady on Saturday with another Rs. 15 crore and rose on Sunday (Christmas) to Rs. 18 crore. The first weekend aggregate comes to Rs. 48 crore, as predicted by this writer on Saturday.
Don 2 has fared especially well at multiplexes in urban centres. The response at single screen theatres was average. The overseas business of the film has also been good.
Whether Don 2 turns out to be a blockbuster will be clear at the end of the second weekend. Trade estimates suggest that the film should be in the range of Rs. 100 crore at the end of its ten-day run at theatres.
