|The promise of starting 2012 with a bang at the box office has gone thud! Players, the action thriller starring a host of Bollywood actors, has failed to pull crowds in its opening weekend. Hopes from the week ahead are not bright either.
The movie, released at over 2000 screens, hit the ground traipsing at box office with a meagre collection of Rs. 4.7 crore on Friday. While the business normally picks up on Saturday for any Bollywood release, in the case of Players it went slightly down with a collection of Rs. 4.6 crore. Sunday brought a little respite for the distributors as the collections spiked to Rs 5.75 crore.
The aggregate collection of the film in the opening week is Rs. 15 crore, which is way below other mark but still not too depressing either.
What’s worse is that despite no major competition in the coming weeks, the film is showing little sign of picking up at the box office.
Meanwhile, Shahrukh Khan’s Don 2 which released two days before Christmas has emerged as a superhit. The film has crossed the Rs. 100 crore mark and the added collections are a bonus in the kitty of the producers and distributors.
The coming Friday would see multiple releases, including Ghost, starring Shiney Ahuja, Sayali Bhagat and Julia Bliss.
The next major release would be Agneepath on January 26.
