George Clooney and Meryl Streep win Golden Globe Awards
Hailed as a precursor to the Academy Awards, the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards has kicked off the award season in Hollywood by awarding the best cinematic works for the year 2011.

Director Alexander Payne’s film The Descendants, staring George Clooney won the Golden Globe for the Best Motion Picture (Drama) while the French movie The Artist won the award for Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy).

George Clooney won the Best Actor (Drama) award for this performance in The Descendants, while Meryl Streep walked away with the Golden Globe for Best Actress (Drama) for her riveting portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady.

Martin Scorsese got a standing ovation when he took the stage to collect his Golden Globe for directing Hugo. Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Morgan Freeman.

The 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards was hosted by Ricky Gervais and was liberally sprinkled with his trademark British humour.

Best Actor, Musical or Comedy: Jean Dujardin, The Artist.

Best Actress, Musical or Comedy: Michelle Williams, My Week With Marilyn.

Best Supporting Actor: Christopher Plummer, Beginners.

Best Supporting Actress: Octavia Spencer, The Help.

Best Foreign Language Film: A Separation.

Best Animated Film: The Adventures of Tintin.

Best Screenplay: Woody Allen, Midnight in Paris.

Best Original Score: Ludovic Bource, The Artist.

Best Original Song: Masterpiece (music and lyrics by Madonna, Julie Frost, Jimmy Harry), W.E.

Best Actor, Drama: Kelsey Grammer, Boss.

Best Actress, Drama: Claire Danes, Homeland.

Best Actor, Musical or Comedy: Matt LeBlanc, Episodes.

Best Miniseries or Movie: Downton Abbey (Masterpiece), PBS.

Best Actress, Miniseries or Movie: Kate Winslet, Mildred Pierce.
