Pop legend Whitney Houston found dead in bathtub of hotel room
Pop diva and one of the most popular names in the music industry, Whitney Houston died on Saturday afternoon in a Beverly Hills hotel room. She was 48.

According to the Coroner’s report as revealed by Reuters on Sunday, Whitney Houston was found in the bathtub of her Beverly Hills hotel room, but the Coroners said the cause of death would not be determined until more lab tests were completed.

“I'd just comment that she (Whitney Houston) was found in the bathtub. ... I believe somebody removed her from the bathtub and the paramedics did CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) on her,” Ed Winter, assistant chief coroner for Los Angeles County, is quoted as saying by Reuters.

Beverly Hills police said they were called to the fourth floor Beverly Hilton room at around 3:43 p.m. PST on Saturday, and fire department personnel who were already at the location responded immediately. Houston was unresponsive to CPR, and she was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m.

Whitney Houston’s death came on the eve of the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. Houston was preparing for the musical night and was even set to appear at the pre-Grammy concert by her longtime mentor Clive Davis.

The guests arriving for the Grammys were shocked at Houston’s death and the Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night too saw emotional tributes being paid to the deceased songstress.

Whitney Houston emerged in the 1980s as one of her generation's greatest R&B voices. All her music albums have sold more than a million copies; her 1985 debut album and OST of the film The Bodyguard sold more than 10 million copies. In mid-90s she acted in Hollywood films but drug abuse took a toll on her singing and on her marriage to Bobby Brown. Thereafter, her voice became scratchy and her performances were erratic. However, she made a comeback in 2002 with the album ‘Just Whitney’ and in 2009 with ‘I Look To You’.

Whitney’s last performance apparently came two days before her death at a pre-Grammy party. She sang the gospel classic “Jesus Loves Me” with singer Kelly Price.
