Shahrukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan root for hockey

The ad campaign Phir Dil Do Hockey Ko…Dhak Dhak Go is working wonders! Not only is the Indian hockey team doing superbly, the efforts of the national sports heroes are being acknowledged by our on-screen heroes of Bollywood. From Amitabh Bachchan to Shahrukh Khan, Bollywood is talking hockey!

Here is what the sports buff Amitabh Bachchan wrote on Twitter after India qualified for the London Olympics to be held this summer: “Jubilation for Hockey Olympic qualification .. time was when we were the automatic choices for Gold !!” Yes, we all miss that time, Mr. Bachchan, and seriously hope our hockey team repeat the past glories this year!

India qualified for the Olympics after trouncing France 8-1 in the finals of the Olympic qualifying tournament in New Delhi on Sunday.

Shahrukh Khan also could not help but appreciate the tremendous display by the five-goal-scorer Sandeep Singh in the match. “Was so nice to see sunny singh so simply say how as he scored goals...all kept sayin yo yo sunny Singh..I feel like playing hockey just now!” SRK wrote. It’s a notable fact that Shahrukh Khan’s Chak De India was a hockey-based movie which literally won gold at the box office!

Not to forget, it was Saif Ali Khan who unveiled the World Series Hockey trophy (Images here) and will even perform at the opening ceremony of the same! Meanwhile, in case you aren’t aware, Bollywood actor Sunil Shetty is the brand ambassador of World Series Hockey!

It’s high time we give hockey the love and respect it deserves! Follow the game; watch it live at stadiums! The players have done their bit by qualifying for the Olympics, it’s our turn now! And if some of you think that winning a medal at the Olympics is a Herculean task, we would like to repeat Shahrukh Khan’s dialogue from Chak De India (read in his voice): “Wahi toh karna hai.”
