When we first heard this news we couldn’t believe it, seriously! A remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s cult hit Zanjeer, which catapulted him to stardom, is in the pipelines for the director Apoorva Lakhia, and he has signed the south star Ram Charan Teja to do an Amitabh Bachchan in the new Zanjeer.
Earlier there were speculations that Abhishek Bachchan will be cast in his father’s role in the Zanjeer remake which is co-produced by Amit Mehra, son of Prakash Mehra, the director and producer of the original Zanjeer. But with the confirmation from Apoorva Lakhia every such gossip has fizzled out. The director has confirmed that Ram Charan Teja will be stepping into the shoes of Amitabh Bachchan as the next ‘angry young man’.
According to Apoorva, Charan will make a fantastic action hero. “‘Zanjeer’ is an iconic film and we thought he was a perfect fit for Vijay’s role. He is the next angry young man of Hindi cinema,” the director is quoted as saying.
But certainly it’s not going to be a cakewalk for Ram Charan Teja. The actor is pulling out all the stops to prepare for the role of a lifetime. He is working hard on his Hindi and also building his physique for his big-ticket debut in Bollywood.
Who’s going to be the actress opposite Ram? The buzz is that Deepika Padukone might be signed to play Jaya Bachchan, but Apoorva asserts that the “details on that are yet to be worked out”. However, he assures that a top actress will be roped in for the film.
Ram Charan Teja, the son of the popular Telugu actor Chiranjeevi, is a young star, who has shown exemplary performances in his films. His Magadheera is one of the biggest grossers in Telugu cinema’s history.
