Mandakini, who instantly became famous after her film Ram Teri Ganga Maili, was said to have been involved with Dawood Ibrahim, on whom Akshay Kumar’s ‘Don’ character is based in the OUATIM sequel. After Kareena, Vidya Balan, and Kangana Ranaut were approached for the role of Mandakini which looks meaty as well as a feisty one. Though Kangana Ranaut was almost finalized, the makers decided to change the cast.
Why not Kangana when she showed exemplary mettle as Rehana in the first installment? According to sources, Akshay Kumar-Kangana Ranaut could have made for a novel pair, but the makers feel sceptical about accepting the actress in the sequel with Akshay and Imran. Yes, the young actor Imran Khan has also been finalized for the movie Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2, and thus the film requires a face that can suit Akki as well as Imran.
With Imran Khan in the film, leading ladies like Katrina, Deepika, Sonam and Sonakshi have come under the spotlight, claims a source, and says, “Because the girl not only has scenes with Akshay, but also some with Imran.”
Also Kangana has signed another film with Ekta Kapoor. There are chances that Sonakshi Sinha might grab the opportunity because it would be easier with her to coordinate dates as compared to actresses like Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone, who are relatively busier these days.
Director Milan Luthria, too, has confirmed that he will sign only a top actress, but as for now he is giving time to the movie’s script and other details. Soon the announcement will be made about the cast.
