Director Tigmanshu Dhulia has truly arrived on the big scene with the success of his latest film Paan Singh Tomar. Now, he’s promptly moved on to his next project, a period film and a biopic for which he’s pursuing Rani Mukherjee for the lead role.
From what we hear, Tigmanshu had a meeting with Rani Mukherjee last week and he discussed the idea of a film based on the life of the real character of Begum Joanna Nobilis Sombre aka Begum Samru, who was an influential figure on the political canvas of the 18th and 19th century India. Her beginnings were very humble -- as a nautch girl -- but she went on to marry a European and became the ruler of a principality near Meerut.
It’s the character of a strong and confident woman and has reportedly been written keeping Rani Mukherjee in mind.
That is why Dhulia is trying to woo the actress to sign on the dotted line.
On her part, Rani, too, is said to be impressed by Dhulia’s work and wants to be a part of the film. She has apparently given her nod to the project.
