The ApunKaChoice movie review of The Avengers Outstanding, remarkable, amazing, incredible, awesome… One can go on eulogizing The Avengers without a pause for breath! This is one movie I was really looking forward to; and make no mistake, The Avengers is Marvel Studios’ magnum opus! This is as good as a jamboree of action superheroes gets.
From the very word go, The Avengers arrests your attention! The earth is in danger of being ruled by Loki, Thor’s brother. And to rule the earth, Loki takes hold of The Tesseract - a source of energy with unlimited potential. Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), the director of S.H.I.E.L.D, then decides to make a team of superheroes to form The Avengers and fight Loki and his army, and get back The Tesseract.
Of course, we know who’ll emerge victorious, but the visual spectacle that is offered is unmatched in its awesomeness! Marvel Studios have raised the bar sky-screamingly high and we have no clue what next they’ll have on the plate to offer us when these superheroes come in their individual movies!
The fact that impresses us the most is that this superhero flick is not merely about explosions and encounters, but much more than that! What works like a charm in the favour of The Avengers is that it has far more humour than one would have expected!
Also, speaking about the actors of this film would be like holding a candle to the sun! Each character of The Avengers fits right in the respective roles, and has given a noteworthy performance! From Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) to Chris Hemsworth (Thor), to Chris Evans (Captain America) and Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk), all of them deserve a prolonged applause! But the one who literally stands out of this planet (we would have loved to elaborate this one, but prefer attaching no spoilers) for us is Robert Downey Jr.! Whenever Robert Downey Jr. comes on the screen, expect either some kick*** action or kick*** humour! Tom Hiddleston’s portrayal of the baddie Loki, too, was impressive!
Handling six superheroes definitely needs some superpowers, and director Joss Whedon deserves a pat on his back for pulling off the Herculean feat in The Avengers! He has given some earnest heed to the fact that no superhero overshadows the other, the possibility of which was alarmingly high! Right from bringing the superheroes together to form The Avengers, to settling the disputes between them, to the very last shot of the movie, Joss Whedon has given us a memorable watch! The action in the movie is by far one the best we’ve ever witnessed!
And while we, Indians, are lucky enough to catch the film a week before the US release, there is some more good news in store! The Avengers also shows the streets of Kolkata and we even see Mark Ruffalo -- not in his Hulk form -- mouthing a couple of Hindi words! Not reading the subtitles running at the bottom of the theatre screen while the actors were conversing in Hindi, surely felt like a privilege!
We say come hell or high water, do not miss The Avengers! Get your tickets booked straightaway, while I plan to watch the film again this weekend! We are going with 4 out of 5 stars for The Avengers!
