All the expectations riding on Priyadarshan’s action flick Tezz have been squarely dashed with the film failing to draw footfalls to theatres in its opening weekend.
Starring actors like Ajay Devgan, Anil Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut and Sameera Reddy, the film opened to a lukewarm response on Friday from the audience. The film did business of a meagre Rs. 3.5 crore on its opening day, a shockingly low figure for a multistarrer riding high on buzz. Sadly, the business didn’t pick up on Saturday and rose only marginally to Rs. 4 crore on Sunday.
Totting up the figures gives us the opening weekend aggregate of Rs. 11 crore for Tezz, which is way below the mark. In fact, the film is already being dubbed as the biggest flop of 2012.
The critical reviews for Tezz have mostly been negative and the audience response to the film wasn’t exuberant either.
On the other hand, the small-budget film Vicky Donor, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Yami Gautam has emerged triumphant. It rounded off its first week with a collection of Rs. 14.5 crore and added another Rs. 7 crore to its kitty over the second weekend at box office. The film’s ten-day collection is easily over the Rs. 20 crore mark and it might do a lifetime business between Rs. 25 crore to 30 crore. A HIT.
Likewise, Hate Story, released on April 20, has held its ground and made a decent Rs. 11 crore. There’s a chance of it touching the Rs. 15 crore mark.
The coming Friday would see the release of Jannat 2, starring Emraan Hashmi and Esha Gupta. Given Hashmi’s pull at the box office, the film should get a good opening.
