|Ram Gopal Varma’s new film Department that boasts of a new technique of cinematography has flopped at box office.
The film, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Rana Daggubati and featuring a steamy and overhyped item number by the piping hot Nathalia Kaur, faced outright rejection at box office from it’s opening day.
Department scraped in the collection of Rs. 2.75 crore on Friday; its collection dropped to Rs. 2.50 crore on Saturday and returned to the depressing Rs. 2.75 crore again on Sunday. The janta’s verdict is loud and clear: Thumbs Down to Department.
Adding insult to the injury, the film’s collection witnessed a steep drop on Monday, flushing the faint hope of revival of its fortune down the drain.
Department is a dud at overseas box office as well, even though the response at UAE box office was a bit better.
On the other hand, the previous week’s release Ishaqzaade held its momentum in its second weekend. The film, starring Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra, rounded off its first week collection at approximately Rs. 25 crore nett. In comparison, Dangerous Ishhq was poor. The film, starring Karisma Kapoor, did the business of just Rs. 6 crore from its first week.
The next big Bollywood release would be Rowdy Rathore on June 1.
