Nicole Kidman wowed her fans and critics alike with her outstanding performance in The Paperboy at the just concluded 65th Cannes Film Festival. Directed by Lee Daniels, the movie The Paperboy has one scene which left the movie buffs aghast, and that was Nicole Kidman peeing on Zac Efron.
Talking about his film with the GQ magazine, director Lee Daniels reveals that it was because of Nicole Kidman’s insistence that he kept the peeing scene in the film, otherwise he would have cut it before the screening at Cannes. Lee says that he got nervous after he shot the scene which made Nicole the talk of the festival. The director tells GQ, “But, when right before I sent it off to Cannes, I called Nicole at three in the morning. I said, ‘Nicole, I can’t do it, I’ve gone too far. I can’t put that scene in the movie.’ She said, ‘Lee, you made me pee on Zac Efron, if you don’t put that in the movie, you’re out of your freakin’ mind.’”
While promoting her movie The Paperboy at Cannes, Nicole Kidman revealed that the scene, which saw her urinating on her co-star Zac Efron’s face, was real. She did it because that’s what the director Lee wanted.
In the scene, Nicole’s character pees on Zac’s character after he is stung by a jellyfish while swimming in the ocean. Daniels, who made his name directing Precious in 2009, says former High School Musical star Zac Efron found it hard to keep a straight face as the Oscar winner urinated on him.
The Paperboy is the Lee Daniels’ adaptation of Pete Dexter’s steamy crime thriller.
