With over 2 million hits on Youtube within two weeks, the song Daaru Desi from Cocktail is reveling in the sweet glory of success. The song is a sure-shot hit, but do you know actors Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone didn’t like the song much.
The revelation came with the video of making of the song, which is now for everyone to see. The song is shot in London and tries to capture the camaraderie between three friends, played by Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty.
Director Homi Adajania explains the crux of the song, “The friendship montage establishes these three friends who have an absolutely fabulous relationship and when they’re together, it's like they’re on Daaru Desi and time means nothing.”
However, Saif hates the song so much that he even makes fun of it, “I Hate this song, let’s move on from it!” He even sings a mock version of Daaru Desi. However, the fun of the video lies in the moments the three friends share. Like the original song, the making of the song video carries all the entertaining scenes, and also comes with a smattering of comments from the crew members, especially from Homi Adajania, who even discloses that producer Dinesh Vijan agreed to give the actors a lot of money, if the song doesn’t become a big hit.
Deepika Padukone appreciates the song for its moments and the way it’s shot, but says, “On a song level, I really don't like it, and Dinu (Dinesh Vijan) knows it.” To which Dinesh replies all of them are lying.
The making of the song is a riveting watch with all the banter and bonhomie between the cast and the crew that goes on behind the cameras, but watch it for Homi Adajania and Saif Ali Khan -- the amusing two are just amazing in the video.
