The ApunKaChoice movie review of Teri Meri Kahaani. The first thing to strike my mind after watching the trailers of Teri Meri Kahaani was the apprehension if it will be another botched attempt to make a timeless love story like Mausam. Fortunately, Teri Meri Kahaani neither piles on you the Mausam brand of misery, nor leaves you disappointed; in fact, the film is quite impressive and entertaining!
The film takes you on an eternal journey of a couple whose love refuses to die, as they keep meeting and falling in love with each other in every life; but, make no mistake, the film is certainly not about reincarnation!
Teri Meri Kahaani takes you through three eras (though not in chronological order): 1910s, 1960s and the current year 2012! While you might imagine since the film deals with three eras, it must have become a tad boring and confusing, the eras have been dealt with precision and the film is really simple and uncomplicated!
TMK starts with the 1960’s era, where Priyanka Chopra is a successful actress and Shahid Kapoor a struggling musician! Prachi Desai, too, makes an appearance in this era and both she and PC fall for Shahid! Following an ‘Uff’ moment, the film brings us to 2012, where, yet again, PC and Shahid fall in love! The best part is that these two eras are left open-ended and the movie continues and takes us back to the era of 1910! Indeed a perfect recipe to keep one waiting right till the conclusion!
From the word go, Teri Meri Kahaani catches your fancy! Director Kunal Kohli tweeted in the morning that he hopes the fans like his labour of love! Well, we can easily vouch that making such a film would have surely been a Herculean task, and a lot of labour must have been put in to get it right! We loved the climax of the film the most!
It’s after a span of about four years that Kunal has directed a film, and this time, he has worn the director’s hat pretty confidently and stylishly! It is difficult for us to choose our favourite era, but if we had to, the 1960s and the 2012 era will give stiff competition to each other!
You remember how in Hum Tum (directed by Kunal Kohli himself) we saw a cartoon of a boy and girl; Teri Meri Kahaani also sees something of the same sort! In the 1960s era, like in silent movies, you see text flashing on the screen, as Shahid Kapoor apes Charlie Chaplin!
Even in the 2012 era, you see tweets and Facebook statuses and photos flashed on the screen. Kunal Kohli indeed offers something fresh to the audiences!
Not to forget, the sets and the costumes for all the three eras are apt! You would for sure be able to relate to the 2012 story shown in Teri Meri Kahaani! I mean, not only the story, even their costumes and gadgets are so us!
Speaking of performances, both Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra pull it off brilliantly and share a lovable chemistry on screen! All the three different characters played by both of them are par excellence! Also, both Shahid and Priyanka look amazing in all the three eras!
Be it kurtas, suspenders, or hoodies, Shahid Kapoor will have the girls swooning over him! Similarly for Priyanka Chopra, who looks like a dream irrespective of whether she wears saris, traditional suits, or shorts!
While we thought only Navjot Singh Sidhu helms shayari, a special mention for the shayari interactions between Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in Teri Meri Kahaani! Not that I did it, but you would certainly want to Google and try and find the mentioned shayari after you watch the film!
Also, we can’t escape mentioning the awesome music of the film! The duo of Sajid-Wajid has done completely justice to the three eras and has composed music accordingly! From Jab se Mere Dil Ko Uff for the1960s’ era and That’s all I really wanna do for the present year 2012, the music is worth applause!
Teri Meri Kahaani is for all those who are in love! And for those who have not found their perfect match yet, stay positive; because you never know, the next person you ‘bump’ into, might just be your significant other, who is with you from the past life, and will be with you in the future lives as well!
Teri Meri Kahaani is without a doubt a well-acted and well-directed movie! We give it 3 stars out of 5 for offering a decent romantic Bollywood film after a drought! Go, relish being in love!
