Box Office: 'The Amazing Spider-man' is all the rage!

The box office seems in the grip of Spidey’s web as the new Hollywood film The Amazing Spider-man broke records in its opening weekend in India.

The film, starring Andrew Garfield as the new Spider-man, registered a record breaking opening and a stupendous run over Friday, Saturday and Sunday to notch up the first weekend collection of more than Rs. 30 crore, highest for any Hollywood film in India so far. The film released with 1236 prints in four languages - English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu in both 3D and 2D formats. The average occupancy in theatres for the film was around 80 percent.

In comparison, the new Bollywood release Maximum paled at box office. Its opening weekend collection stands at around Rs. 2 crore, which is way below par. Among other releases, both Supermen of Malegaon and Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai were washouts.

The previous week’s release Teri Meri Kahaani did very poorly at box office and can now be dubbed a flop. Gangs Of Wasseypur, on the other hand, has found its share of audience and managed Rs. 22 crore by the end of its second weekend.

The coming Friday would see the release of Bol Bachchan along with the small-budget film 3 Bachelors.
