Movie Review: ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ to the occasion!
The ApunKaChoice movie review of The Dark Knight Rises. There is a reason why The Dark Knight Rises is really special for cinemagoers! Batman is certainly one of the most loved superheroes ever. The number of movies, comics, and other fiction work made on Batman is perhaps more than on any other superhero! I still remember watching Batman Begins in 2005, and standing in long queues to get my ticket for The Dark Knight in 2008! And today, just when the theatre staff showed me the way to my seat, I could feel life moving in a slow motion, as I knew I was about to witness the conclusion to Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy: The Dark Knight Rises!

Christopher Nolan said in a recent interview that every great story deserves a great ending and he has tried to be true to that with The Dark Knight Rises! The film is indeed amazing (despite its name not being The Amazing Batman)!

The Dark Knight Rises carries forward from where it left in The Dark Knight, where Batman intentionally framed himself as a traitor to the state, in order to portray Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) as a symbol of hope for Gotham! The whole journey of how he goes into hiding, not only as Batman but also as Bruce Wayne, and his return to normality (again, both as Batman and Brue) has been remarkably portrayed in the film!

Without giving away too much, The Dark Knight Rises sees Bane (Tom Hardy) overtake the Gotham city after building an underground army and taking over a nuclear weapon! This nuclear weapon is made from radioactive material which was earlier for a clean energy plant that was not sold for money by Wayne (despite the fact that Wayne Enterprises was making no profits) owing to its dangerous capability of being modified into a nuclear weapon! Batman must now rise (as the title suggests) and save his city from Bane and his cruel objectives!

Not to mention, there’s also a connection between Ra’s al Ghul (one of the evilest villains of superhero series) and Bane (Tom Hardy) and….amm… we don’t want to kill the suspense here (watch the movie and you’ll thank us for not giving away the third name)! Just a pointer here! In case you have not seen the first two installments of the Batman series, we advise you to watch them before going for this one, else you’ll keep wondering what the connections are!

The Dark Knight Rises has every necessary element a quality movie ought to have -- emotions, humour, romance, loads of action, and suspense! The way the details have been dealt with and the connections from the past movies intertwined is laudable! There literally is no dull moment in the film!

The performances by the actors are spot on; no one, we repeat, no one disappoints! Christian Bale as Batman is irreplaceable! Wolf-whistles, screams and claps were the only thing I could hear when Bale made his entry as the Batman! Anne Hathaway as the Catwoman looked smoking! The chemistry between Batman and Catwoman is as hot as it can get!

The antagonist always has a major role to play in superhero films! While it would be completely unfair to compare Bane to The Dark Knight’s villain The Joker, Tom Hardy as Bane, despite wearing a mask the whole time, gives a mind-blowing performance! His eyes, his voice and, more importantly, his giant built are enough to arrest your attention! Not to mention, Marion Cotillard though has a small, but REALLY pivotal role in the film!

Gary Oldman as James Gordon, Morgan Freeman as Fox and Michael Caine as Alfred have immortalized their characters with their performances!

Director Christopher Nolan has yet again given a stupefying Batman film to relish! The Dark Knight Rises is grand! The shots, the locations (which includes India too), the gadgets, the action sequences, we can go on and on praising the film without a pause for breath! Though it is supposed to be a trilogy, you can’t call us mad if we expect Nolan’s Batman series to turn into a tetralogy!

You simply have no excuse to miss The Dark Knight Rises! If you are worried about not watching the first two parts, buy a DVD and watch them, so that you can watch The Dark Knight Rises -- it is worth it!

Final Verdict: 4 out of 5 stars for the epic conclusion!
