Box office: 'Barfi!' has an excellent weekend

Box office: 'Barfi!' has an excellent weekend
Director Anurag Basu’s cinematic gem Barfi! hasn’t just got lavish praises from critics, the film is being wholeheartedly lapped up by the movie buffs as well, as is evident from its first weekend box office figures.

The film, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D’Cruz had a limited release at over 1300 screens at 700 theatres across India. Given this limited release the opening weekend collection can be rated nothing short of excellent. How?

On Friday the film opened to a positive response and rave reviews from the critics. It collected Rs. 9.20 crore at box office despite some competition from the last week’s release Raaz 3 which has still some steam left.

The business of Barfi! rose to Rs. 11.50 crore on Saturday and peaked on Sunday with an estimated collection of Rs. 13.50 crore.

Totting up the numbers gives us the film’s first weekend collection as Rs. 34.20 crore.

The film is drawing praises from the film fraternity and is up for a long run at theatres. In short, another HIT film on its way.

Meanwhile, Raaz 3 starring Bipasha Basu, Emraan Hashmi, Esha Gupta rounded off its first week at box office with a collection of Rs. 55.25 crore. It added another Rs. 9.05 crore to its kitty over its second weekend to take the tally to Rs. 64.30 crore. A HIT.

The coming Friday would see the release of the Kareena Kapoor-starrer Heroine.
