Box office: Kareena Kapoor’s 'Heroine' opens well on Friday
'Heroine' off to a good start at box office but the response not as strong as expected

Madhur Bhandarkar’s latest movie Heroine, starring Kareena Kapoor in leading role, opened to a good response at box office on Friday, but the reviews haven’t really been flattering.

Panned by a majority of critics, the film saw an average of 50 percent response at multiplexes, though at some centres the occupancy was about 65 percent. The response was a bit tepid at single screen theatres, but the film did open well in mass belts. As per early estimates, the film’s first-day collection will be between Rs. 8.5 crore to 9 crore at domestic box office, which is strictly decent.

Moreover, the film has been made on a budget of Rs. 22 crore and its marketing and promotional costs are an added Rs. 10 crore. So the film needs to recover Rs. 32 crore, which won’t be a tough task, as it is expected to rake in between Rs. 25 crore to 30 crore in the opening weekend itself.

Madhur Bhandarkar has already said that ‘Heroine’ is in a safe zone as far as box office is concerned.

Meanwhile, the last week’s release Barfi! has tasted box office success with the first week collection of Rs. 58.6 crore nett. Raaz 3, released two weeks back, summed up its two-week run with a collection of Rs. 70.70 crore nett. Both films are HITS.

The coming week would see the release of two comedy films: Omg Oh My God! and Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal.
