More good news keeping coming for Anurag Basu and the Barfi! team, not the least its three principal actors Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D’Cruz. The film has entered the Rs. 100 crore club just 10 days after its release.
The film has grossed a billion bucks worldwide into its second week at box office. The domestic collection of the film in the first ten days was Rs. 75.70 crore net till Sunday. It added another Rs. 3.25 crore on Monday to take the tally to 78.95 crore. Now, if you add the collection from overseas, which isn’t insubstantial by the way, the film cruises past the Rs. 100 crore mark, a stupendous achievement given that the film had a limited release at domestic screens.
The good news comes just two days after the selection of Barfi! as India’s official entry to the Oscars in the Foreign Language Film category this year. However, there has been some concern whether Barfi! indeed was the right choice for the Oscars given the number of scenes in it that have allegedly been copied from the films of Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton.
Meanwhile, the new release Heroine witnessed a fall in its collections on Monday. After the first weekend of Rs. 25 crore, the film added another Rs. 3 crore on Monday to register the collection of Rs. 28 crore for the first four days. Strictly average.
