An acoustic guitar slung around his shoulder, Shahrukh Khan takes to the streets of London and strums and croons away to the melodious song ‘Challa’ in Yash Chopra’s comeback film Jab Tak Hai Jaan.
The song, sung by Rabbi Shergill, is a Punjabi track written by Gulzar and composed by A R Rahman. It features a handsome looking Shahrukh Khan strumming the six-string and entertaining the passerbys, onlookers in London. The actor is seen grubbing it out doing odd jobs like car-washes, or vegetable vending.
The words he croons are thought provoking. “Rang satrangi de, bulbula di boli, dhup de pair chale, chhawan di le doli. Hunn kale kale badla ch chand labb le, gungiyaan hawawan diyan wajan sunnda,” (The talk of the seven-splendored bubbles, at sunlight’s feet walks the palanquin of shadows. Now hunt for the moon in black clouds, hear the sound of silent winds).
The composition by A R Rahman is bang-up and has a lot of guitar in it. Shahrukh Khan looks fine with the instrument, but he could have done better with chords placements on the fret-board and also made his strumming look a lot more convincing.
Yet, no complaints. Shahrukh Khan, looking fresh as a daisy injects the song with his characteristic verve and vigour. There is a glimpse of Katrina Kaif at the fag end of the song. She comes, drops a coin and there’s a brief eye-contact between her and SRK. What transpires should better be seen in the video below.
Jab Tak Hai Jaan is Yash Chopra’s swan song. It’s slated to release on November 13.
