|The Gods seem to favour Akshay Kumar’s new release Omg Oh My God! which has, after a slow start on Friday, picked up miraculously at box office.
To start with, the film got positive reviews from critics and the word of mouth has been crucial in pulling in the footfalls. The film’s opening day business was Rs. 4.25 crore, not an impressive figure for a film bringing Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal together again. But the collection picked up on Saturday (Rs. 6.50 crore) and peaked on Sunday with a figure of Rs. 7.75 crore.
It is believed that if it was not for the India versus Pakistan T20 cricket match on Sunday evening, the film’s collection would have been in the Rs. 8 crore to 8.50 crore range.
The good news is that Monday, which normally witnesses around 50 percent fall in collections for even a potential blockbuster, didn’t see a steep dip in the collection. In fact, the Monday collection of approx. Rs. 4.5 crore-5 crore is better than the film’s Friday business, something extremely rare in Bollywood. Now, add to the equation the fact that Tuesday is a national holiday on account of Gandhi Jayanti and therefore likely to attract the movie buffs in hordes.
Summing up the numbers, the first four days of OMG Oh My God! have seen the film making Rs. 23 crore approx. at box office, a decent enough figure.
On the other hand, the Priyadarshan-directed film Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal was a washout.
The coming Friday sees the clash of English Vinglish, starring Sridevi, with Kismet Love Paisa Dilli, starring Vivek Oberoi and Mallika Sherawat.
