Box Office: 'English Vinglish' picks up over the weekend
'English Vinglish' shows an upward trend at box office

Hailed by critics, praised by viewers, Sridevi’s comeback film English Vinglish opened to a fumbling start at box office but showed an upward trend over the weekend.

The film, marking Sridevi’s return to acting after 14 long years, opened to a lackluster start on Friday with a paltry collection of Rs. 2.50 crore nett. Thanks to the rave reviews and positive word of mouth, the collection on Saturday picked up to Rs. 4.40 crore nett and the weekend was rounded off with Rs. 6.35 crore nett on Sunday. The first weekend from domestic box office stands at Rs. 13.25 crore nett.

In gross figures if we add the film’s collection overseas to what it grossed at home, the first weekend collection, according to a statement issued by Eros International, stands at Rs. 27 crore worldwide. Moreover, the film didn’t show a substantial dip on Monday, relative to the opening day collection.

Meanwhile, the last week’s other release Kismet Love Paisa Dilli, starring Mallika Sherawat and Vivek Oberoi, has fared poorly at box office.

The coming Friday would see multiple releases. Clashing for the box office pie are the films Aiyya, Bhoot Returns, Chittagong and Makkhi.
