Comedian Jaspal Bhatti dies in road accident
Actor and comedian Jaspal Bhatti, who used satire to humour the social ills and highlight problems of common man, died in a road accident on Thursday.

The accident took place around 1 am near Shahkot in Nakodar area of Punjab. The 57-year-old actor was going to Jalandhar from Bhatinda to promote his film ‘Power Cut’ when the car skid off the road and rammed into a roadside tree.

The car was reportedly being driven by Bhatti’s son Jasraj. The film’s actress Surilie Gautam was also travelling with them. Jaspal Bhatti was taken to a private hospital in Jalandhar where he was reportedly declared brought dead on arrival by the doctors. Both Jasraj and Surilie were injured in the accident.

According to Jaspal Bhatti’s associate Vinod Sharma, the actor had been traveling during past few days for the promotion of his new film Power Cut, which is slated to release this Friday.

Reports say a post mortem will be conducted on Jaspal Bhatti’s body and the cremation may take place on Thursday evening.

Jaspal Bhatti shot to limelight in 1990s with the low-budget comedy show ‘Flop Show’, following which he worked in a number of shows and also made movies in Punjabi. He is survived by his wife Savita, son Jasraj Bhatti, and a daughter, Raabiya Bhatti.

The untimely death of the comedian has shocked many in the film industry. The celebs took to Twitter to express their shock.
