A toughie to the core, but a softie at heart. That’s how Akshay Kumar’s character Bahatar comes across in the title song of the film Khiladi 786.
Dressed as a cop, but not a natty one, Akshay enters the frame flashing his by-now-famous smile. The song cuts to a bevy of colourfully dressed extras rubbing their biceps and doing the soft jig to the composition ‘Khiladi Bhaiyya’ by Himesh Reshammiya. The chorus, must say, is quite charged with a lot of baritones singing in unison. A slew of singers step behind the mike for this number: Vineet Singh, Aman Trikha, Yashraj Kapil, Alam Gir Khan and Rajdeep Chatterjee.
Akshay stands tall and tough among the extras, but his soft side is revealed in the words. He is still waiting for his ladylove.
“Jo paar lagaye sab naiyya, wahi phans gaya bhanwar mein bhaiyya, kab aayegi nain laraiyya, jo bolegi humko saiyyan, taare gin-gin kar, intezar mein hum, baiju bawra ban gaye bhaiyya.”
We are also introduced to Akshay’s multi-coloured family. It has blacks, blondes, desis, videsis - all. We also get a peak of our Khiladi’s machismo through a stamping-on-the-jeep stunt that’s already become the hallmark of the film.
Speaking of ladylove, the role is played by the beautiful Asin. But she’s nowhere to be seen in the song.
Khiladi 786 is directed by Ashish R Mohan and marks the return of Akshay Kumar to Khiladi franchise after a long time.
The film is produced by Twinkle Khanna, Sunil Lulla and Himesh Reshammiya.
