Box office: '1920 Evil Returns' opens well; 'Luv Shuv…' dull
Horror works again at box office; '1920 Evil Returns' off to a good start

Box office: '1920 Evil Returns' opens well; 'Luv Shuv…' dull
Vikram Bhatt seems to have his finger on the pulse of the lovers of horror movies. The writer-director just doesn’t seem to put a foot wrong when it comes to drawing movie buffs to box office.

1920 - Evil Returns, directed by Bhushan Patel and written by Vikram Bhatt, has hit the bull’s eye at box office, raking in a collection in the range of Rs. 4 crore nett on the opening day, as per early estimates. The film, starring Aftab Shivdasani and Tia Bajpai, is strongest in Mumbai, followed by Delhi, UP and Bihar. The response has been very good at single screen theatres especially.

The critical reviews have been mixed, but considering how some of Vikram Bhatt’s previous films were panned but went on to do well at box office, 1920 - Evil Returns too might register a good opening weekend collection.

In contrast, Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana, starring Kunal Kapoor and Huma Qureshi, has opened to a rather lukewarm start, with a first day collection in the range of Rs. 1.25 crore nett. The film’s business will have to show an upward trend on Saturday and Sunday to make a mark at box office.

Meanwhile, all three of the last week’s release have turned out flops at box office. Chakravyuh collected around Rs. 16 crore nett in its first week; Ajab Gazabb Love could only manage Rs. 6.50 crore nett; Emraan Hashmi’s Rush was the worst with a skimpy collection of just Rs. 3.25 crore nett in first week.

Karan Johar’s Student Of The Year isn’t as strong as before (quite expected), but has a formidable collection to put it on the way to be a HIT.

The coming week would see no major release as the Diwali day, November 13, sees the clash of two biggies: Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Son Of Sardaar.
