Priyanka Chopra loves challenges and the latest one she’s taken on will test her mettle to the core. The actress will play the Indian Olympic medal winning boxer Mary Kom.
PeeCee has reportedly been roped in by Sanjay Leela Bhansali for a biopic on the Manipuri pugilist, the intrepid Mary Kom who’s done India proud on many occasions. It’s a difficult role, no doubt, and Priyanka has a tough task ahead fitting into the shoes and gloves of Kom.
We hear that the actress will undergo a four-month long rigorous training to learn boxing from none other than Mary Kom herself. The first two months will be for learning the basics of boxing: the foot-and-arm movement, feinting, sparring etc. The next two months will be more grinding as Priyanka will move into bouts and throw actual punches at the opponents, and in the process take some as well.
The role would also require the actress to be not just fit, but physically and mentally strong.
No other Bollywood actress has dared to play such a daunting role before, and given Priyanka Chopra’s knack for perfection in everything she does, it’s going to raise the bar for Indian actresses.
Buzz is that Priyanka Chopra will also go to Manipur to stay with Mary Kom’s family. It’s important for her to understand the background of the character she’s playing in the film.
Priyanka’s training in boxing will start early next year.
