Akshay Kumar’s new film Khiladi 786 hasn’t turned out to be a box office rage it was expected to be, but the film did rake in a decent collection in the first weekend.
To start with, the film had an average start on Friday with a business of Rs. 10.40 crore nett which is way below the first-day opening of Akshay Kumar’s Rowdy Rathore (Rs. 14.75 crore) earlier this year. The mixed reviews did not help the word of mouth either, and the film clearly fared better at single screen theatres than at multiplexes.
Khiladi 786 did show a little growth on Saturday with a collection of Rs. 11. 15 crore nett, but it wasn’t enough to bring a turnaround in the movie’s fortunes. Sunday was a bit better with a collection of Rs. 12.75 crore nett.
The first weekend aggregate of Khiladi 786 comes at Rs. 34.30 crore, which is way below the mark for an Akshay Kumar actioner, but not bad either. The real test for the film begins from Monday onwards, and it remains to be seen how much it grosses in its first week.
Meanwhile, Talaash continued its good run at theatres, but showed a dip in the business with the release of Khiladi 786. The film starring Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukerji, raked in Rs. 67.90 crore in the first week and added another Rs. 11.20 crore to its kitty during its second weekend. The total 10-day collection of the film stands at just a little under Rs. 80 crore. The film will enter the 100 crore club this week.
The next big release from Bollywood would be Dabangg 2 which is expected to take box office by storm on December 21.
